 Theory: DP Thresholds

Obviously the higher the DP the better, but actually a lot of the times 1000DP or even 3000DP difference doesn't matter. Its all about context.

Take BT01-Slashagemon and BT04-Wargreymon as example, 2 commonly used cards as the top end of a BT4 yellow deck. Going against one of the most common matchups at the time a BT4 green deck, which digimon has a higher chance of surviving a security check? THE SAME, despite a whopping 3000DP difference the chances are the same!

The typical green deck runs no lv5s above 7000DP, so lets take a look at the lv6s.

Notice how maybe apart from the occationaly tech card of BT03-Banchostingmon, the entire line up is 11000DP or higher. The only difference between Wargreymon and Slashangemon is the 8000DP can be ran over by a lv5 with DP boost. Next time when you decide to attack or not, take account of the opponent's deck and see estimate the chance of survival.

Important DP Thresholds

  • 1000

-1000DP, is the most common DP reduction value from yellow deck. 1000DP digimons might as well juts be free food for a yellow deck. Also the lowest value in game.

  • 3000

The DP value of the standard 2cost 0evo cost vanilla lv3s, that most decks run. Cant stop rookie rush if you cant deal with 3000DP.

  • 6000

The DP value of the 1evo cost vanilla lv4s, this is also why 5000DP 1evo cost blockers are terrible at stopping actual aggro, becuase it only stops lv3s. Cards such as Nidhoggmon, Alter-S is also just shy of wiping 6000DP. This also allows them to trade with the 5cost 2evo cost 6000DP lv5s, which many opt to run for its cheapness.

  • 6000+

This becomes extremely important against one of the most dominant forces in the BT4 Meta, Wargreymon.

  • 8000

The pinacle of 2 evo cost lv5s (lets be honest, no one plays the 3 evo cost 10000DP lv5s), basically dies to nothing but lv6/7s. Also dodges 1hit from the widely played Chaosmon:VA

  • 12000

The DP value of the 2 evo costs lv6s and the pinacle of lv6s (unless your name is Nidhoggmon, Ancientgreymon, Blastmon), this might be the difference from only dying to lv7s and 6 or 7s in certain matchups.

Conclusion:

DP Thresholds changes from meta to meta, matchup to matchup. Its importnt to understand when the extra DP matters and choose your line up correctly. Make use of the vast array of vanilla Digimon that is basically the same card with just a +-1 to Cost and DP.

Theory: Cheaper is not necessarily better Take these cards for example. Assume your strategy is to rush to a lv6 most of us would pick Roachmon or Kabuterimon for the 1cost evo, Roachmon to enable a hard summon, Kabuterimon to have an inherit effect. Few would pick Woodmon, because you're just going to evo over it in the breeding zone, thus blocker is wasted and you have to pay 2 cost, might as well just pick Togemon which is also 2cost as well with an inherit. But Togemon has a similar effect as Kabuterimon, thus no point in paying 1 extra memory for the same effect. Similarly Vegiemon's higher DP has no value if used as an evo material. While in a vacuum, completely ignoring what your opponent has, there certainly is no reason to not run the cheapest digimon to reach to the lv6 faster. However most non-aggro decks would opt to run a tamer that sets their memory to 3, in fact most deck base a part of their strategy on having the 3 memory to make their plays. This creates 3 sce...
Theory: Forced Acceleration of Game State and 3 Mem Tamers Many players would opt to play their 3 mem tamer as soon as possible to make most advantage of the guarenteed 3 mem and the occational "profit" you get from the opponent passing turn to you by giving less than 3 memeory.  Its obvious that when players try memory choke each other fewer cards are played each turn thus slower game state, vice versa spending tons of memory lets both players play more cards each turn thus accelerating the game state. Less obvious is that once any player plays a 3 mem tamer it actually forces both players to accelerate the game state as well, and because of this it may not be the best play to play the 3 mem tamer. If you have the 3 mem tamer, you clearly have better capabilities to setup the board and make plays, this in turn forces the enemy to commit something to the board and answer or take the loss. Alternatively you could hard summon/activate an expensive card thus giving the enemy lo...
